Palmula qudratus
Diagnosis
Diagnosis—Small as an adult; smaller than AMM 98.1.1 from
South Dakota and UMUT MV 19965 from Japan; distinctly polygonal
(i.e., nearly equi-dimensional) radius, ulna, tibia, and
fibula, unlike short and broad epipodials of all other polycotylids
exclusive of Palmulainae, subfam. nov.
Etymology
Palmula, Latin for “blade of an oar” in reference
to plesiosaur paddles; quadratus, Latin for “square” in reference
to the equi-dimensional shape of, particularly, the radius and
tibia.
