Current plesiosaur research and researchers

Research into plesisoaurs is very active, and appart from the established researchers there are several PhD students working on projects all over the world.

In contrast to the situation about 10 years ago, there are currently, in the UK and Ireland, five students active with PhD programmes. Another four are active in Australia and Canada, and in the EU there are a further three: in addition, there are worldwide, in academic positions, 10 further workers with substantial publication records on the Sauropterygia. These totals do not include senior academics who might, in the future, sponsor another generation of post-graduate researchers, and of which there are at least four.

An informal seminar at which a number of students made presentation was held in New Walk Museum, Leicester on 18th November 2005. Notes from this meeting, which also includes contributions from overseas researchers not able to attend are available here.
